Aston Villa target free agent Sergio Ramos

Calciomercato.com reports that Aston Villa have moved to sign Sergio Ramos, who is currently without a club, as injuries leave the English side short of central defenders. Manager Unai Emery has reportedly taken a personal role in the approach and met the Spanish veteran to try to persuade him to join. Aston Villa are considering Ramos as an experienced defensive reinforcement ahead of a demanding schedule. However, the defender was not included in the club’s UEFA Champions League squad, meaning he would be unable to play in that competition if the move goes ahead. The report attributes the information to Spanish outlet Fichajes.
