Calciomercato.com reports that Gustavo Varela has become a major market target after scoring seven Serie A goals in eight appearances for Monza. The 2005-born Portuguese forward joined the club from Benfica in the summer for €2 million and could attract several offers in January, with Monza yet to decide whether to keep him for its relegation battle. Benfica retained a preferential right to match future bids and is also entitled to 20% of a subsequent sale, while Varela’s current market value is estimated at around €15 million. Inter have repeatedly sent scouts to watch him, Napoli are considering him as a backup for Højlund, and Arsenal have also made enquiries. Varela is under contract with Monza until 2030.
